gives you a sense of your overall smarts
I took a few IQ tests and my scores here match my past scores. Sure, it may not be completely accurate but these results are still compared with some data. My score matched my percentile from national school tests, college entry tests and scholarship outcomes. I think it gives you a sense of your overall smarts.
People who write bad reviews here are only upset, I guess. Also, I think some people get high scores because high IQ people are naturally curious, and may be interested in tests like this.
PS. English is not my first language so sorry if I explained it badly

not straightforward and a bit misleading
A lot of IQ test sites do this: they lure you into taking the test by claiming it's free and you can understand your IQ, then give restricted results and charge you after the test when you're exhausted and not able to decide clearly. Lots of people who can afford it will just pay, but many users don’t realize they can view their score for free and will pay or get upset and ignore the site. It’s all legal, so you can't say they are misleading, but they aren't straightforward either.
Scores can also be higher than they actually are. Thus, users who receive a much better score than they thought are probably going to show off about it and certainly pay for the results and certificate. This is because people often want to boast about their smarts.
