surprise fee for no membership

I recall signing a few petitions to ban pit bulls due to their dangerous and aggressive nature. I typically don’t donate online, but this time I thought "why not". I donated a little, and today I saw I got charged 3 bucks over the past 3 months and I didn’t understand why. Furthermore, I never registered for a membership. I don't even know how. I haven't even gone to Change since I last supported a petition. A nice gesture turned into a surprise fee. I may not check out the site again because of that thing they pulled. Sorry, I back change but if Change plans to take advantage of me then there’s no progress.

it's really screwed up

It's really screwed up that folks can make a ton of money from making a site like this... How can this be legal?

About Change.org

Change.org is a website that hosts petitions generally related to politics or public policy. Anyone can create a petition on the site, although some petitions may be promoted through paid sponsorship or at the discretion of the site’s team. In 2007, Change.org was founded by Ben Rattray and Mark Dimas, classmates at Stanford University, to connect people with activist causes. In 2010, Change.org launched a petition platform; one of the first petitions aimed to stop the police in Boulder, Colorado, from issuing tickets to homeless people. After unexpectedly collecting 200 signatures, the mayor of Boulder ordered the practice to end. More than 500 million people in 196 countries are working for change in their communities. Every day, Change.org contacts thousands of decision-makers - mayors, business leaders, government officials, or elected representatives - and ensures that petitions reach precisely the people they are addressed to.
